Coaches Message: IronWeek #31
Congratulations to all the participants at WildFlower and Napa tri this past weekend! We’re tremendously proud of the performance from each and every one of you. It’s not every day (luckily) that you take on two of the most difficult half-ironman courses around. The camaraderie shown by this team continues to set you apart from the rest of the pack!!
Overheard were comments such as “I had the race of my life” and conversely “I will try something very different next time.” No matter which camp you fall in there are always learning experiences to draw from. If you had the race of a lifetime, remember what worked. Was it the amount of sleep you got leading up to the event?, the nutrition plan you followed?, the low stress attitude you adopted? OR if there were things you want to try differently next time, be sure to write it all down. It is sometimes difficult to remember all of the little things as you prepare for your next race so by writing them down while they are fresh in your mind will make the job easier next time. So write your race report today! Training equals learning and remembering what you learned will make the training successful!
Every race brings its up’s and down’s and how we face and adjust our plan according to what we’re facing can make or break it.
Hopefully each of you found a moment (or two) on Saturday (and Sunday too for those doubling up) to reflect on your honorees. At the core of TNT are our honorees, they provide the bigger purpose for why so many of us dedicate our time to training with the IronTeam. Aim to dedicate every race to your honorees and when you have those fleeting thoughts of stopping or asking why am I doing this - reflect on your personal honorees. They bring a sense of peace and determination to my race. At times they have been the main reason for moving forward. Be sure to take some time during your recovery to thank your personal honorees and let them know how you are doing.
Speaking of recovery, for those of you who raced this weekend you’ll want to pay extra attention to your body this week. Feed it, hydrate it, and stretch/ice it! Your body will thank you in the long run if you take care of those aches and pains early!
You’ll also notice that our build phase schedule ends this week. The race phase calendar is completed and will be posted soon. Look for another email with important dates.
The workout schedule for the week focuses on recovery. Look to this week’s Captains’ Update for details.
Congratulations again…you are all amazing!
Go long -
Ann, Chris, Steve and Dan
