Coaches Message: IronWeek #40 - LiveStrong, Be Strong!!!

Team -

It is a proud day for IronTeam.

The past 3 weeks saw 10 Ironteamers race at two different events. And they all represented the flames proudly. Congratulations to our first timers - Tate and Joel. Job well done in difficult conditions at both venues. And additional kudos to our Ironteam veterans - Richard, Cilla, Brian, Bo and Nicole for their successful second Ironman, Christy for her 6th (yes 6) Ironman race, Frank for his 3rd (although he didn’t have the day he wanted he was a major factor for Christy completing hers) and Coach Dan on his 7th IM finish. Coach Steve was there for his own “mini-Ironman” and was a tremendous asset for the ride and the run.

But that’s not all… Our Vineman, Lake Placid, Canada, Louisville and Wisconsin racers put in a solid weekend, 2 days in a row.  A little 75 mile ride on Saturday followed by a great swim and long run on Sunday.

The pride is felt all around.  You should be proud.  Proud of yourselves, and proud of each other.  All the hard work you’ve put in this year is paying off. Isn’t it amazing to think that 10 mile run is an easy workout?  As you look at the remaining schedule you start to ask yourself “is that it”? The coaches are extremely proud of all of you.  Two races down, five to go.  We can’t wait to see you all cross the line.

Of course, the answer to “is that it?” is obviously no.  We’ve got another big weekend coming up.  And the centerpiece of this weekend is the annual all-team East Bay Century on Sunday.  The ride begins in Pleasant Hill, heads out near Livermore, then to Berkeley, and back.  100 miles is a long way.  And there are lots of hills and beautiful scenery on the way.  Plan on Sunday being another “all day on your bike” day.  Please look for the email from Jesus with details on this terrific ride.

Plan on arriving 30 minutes before your start to check in and hear the ride briefing.  More details and directions to follow this week.

Saturday’s workout will be at Gull Park in Foster City. Plan for a long open water swim followed by a 10 mile run.

Believe it or not this is recovery week.

As always, listen to your body.  Focus on recovery and rebuilding yourself for the next big weekend.  Please keep the coaches informed of any injuries or other issues you’re dealing with.

Stay strong, go long, and be proud.
Your coaches,
Ann, Chris, Steve and Dan
