Louie Bonpua (1964-2002)

“The Ironman is truly an event that makes you realize what you are made of inside. I was out there for 17 hours and I couldn’t help but think what my purpose and place is in this world. When I was first diagnosed with cancer, I didn’t see anything positive coming out of it at all. Now, it is clear to me why God put me on Earth, and that is to make a positive difference in other people’s lives. For that, I MUST FINISH THIS RACE!”

Workouts for the week of 7/10 - 7/16
Hey team –
It was great to see so many of you this weekend at the workouts and team social. Thanks again to coach Dan for hosting our shin-dig last night. That wasn’t the first (or last) time for me publicly in women’s clothing. I guess this team (and red wine) just brings that out in me. Lucky you!
Here’s a look at the week ahead.
Monday: 6:00am – 10pm REST! J
Tuesday: 6:30pm – Spin/Brick at Sports Basement. The calendar calls for 60’ spin followed by 30’ run. Grab those sneaks!
Wednesday: 6:30pm – Coached Track at De Anza. Remember a few singles for a parking pass.
Thursday: 6:30pm – 90’ ride from Chain reaction. You ready for a taste of Montebello?
Friday: 6:00am – Run at Rancho. Meet at the Bathrooms.
Saturday: 7:30am – Long (but relatively flat) bike ride (75 miles IMC – 65-90 minutes IMLP). Meet at Los Gatos High Scholl in the side lot on Pleasant St. Ready to roll by 8am. This is a brick, so remember your sneaks and supplies for a 3-5 mile run. We will have water support for the ride, but plan on bringing the fuel you need for 4-5 hours.
Sunday: 8:00am – Team “Run with Louie”. Meet at Montclaire Elementary School in Los Altos (1160 St Joseph Ave). IMLP send-off to follow the run and memorial.
Stay strong and remember no head-butts during overtime.
Your captains,
Glenn, Celeste, Mike, and Lori
PS – Good luck to Steve McKenna climbing the Col du Tourmalet in France this week. He’s there to ride part of the course before the tour hits it a few days later.

Taper Time for Lake Placid!
As of today, Dan, John, and Lorraine are officially in their taper. With less than 3 weeks to go, they will concentrate on rest and recovery so that they will be ready to race on July 23rd in Lake Placid.
Taper can do strange things to your mind…
As athletes begin the taper process, some notice they feel down and experience “the blues.”Not all athletes experience the same feelings, or combination of feelings, but it’s common to experience taper blues. The list below can help you identify if you’ve experienced any of the common taper symptoms. Being aware of these feelings can help you handle them properly, and ensure your tapering remains on track.”
