  • Where do you live?: South San Jose
  • Home Team: My dog, Maggie, a wonderfully loving and supportive Boxer. :) My housemates, Kristin, Mike, and Gweneth (their baby girl, born on 9/27/2007!), my parents in Austin, TX, my sister in Gainesville, FL
  • Motivation: My mom is an example of how successful The Society’s translational research grants are. She was diagnosed with cancer in Nov of 2006 (not a blood cancer). Surgery was able to remove the malignant tumor originally detected, but she required follow-on treatment to control any future growth. Her panel of experts put her on Gleevec, a drug originally designed to treat chronic leukemia patients. To date, my mom is healthy, as full of life as ever, and takes one pill a day to control her cancer. Obviously, this is much less invasive than chemo, radiation, or other “traditional” forms of therapy! The Society funded the development of Gleevec, so I know the money we’re raising is making an enormous difference to patients (and their families) EVERYWHERE. Oh, and I get to eat pretty much whatever I want when I’m training. ;
  • Favorite tri gadget(s): How can anyone choose only one??? I’ll have to go with Body Glide for now.
  • Last three books read: I know this is sad, but I honestly can’t remember. I’m reading “Honeymoon With My Brother” right now … it’ll probably take another month to finish it.
  • Last three movies seen: Talladega Nights, Evan Almighty (watching right now), Bourne Ultimatum
  • What person do you look up to the most and why? My dad. He is a selfless, laid-back, dedicated person who gives of himself whenever needed. He never takes himself too seriously (or anyone else :) ), but is committed to every friend and family member he has. And there are lots. :)
  • Favorite local cheap-eats restaurant: Chipotle & Baja Fresh … it’s hard to pick just one.
  • Desert Island Five: A compass, water filtration system/bottle, my dog (don’t worry, I’d feed her before myself), satellite radio, and some floaties (in case the water surrounding the desert island decides to take over). I might take a burrito instead of the floaties, though.
  • What did you want to be when you grew up? professional gymanst or ninja. If that didn’t work out, maybe a doctor.
  • Middle name meme:
    Have fun
    Optimism
    Persistence
    Energy!
